Fair Acres staff and residents were thrilled to gather to celebrate the 101st birthday of Fair Acres resident Bernice Kuhar who turned 101 years young on April 26.
Bernice’s milestone birthday was celebrated with warmth and enthusiasm in the community room of Fair Acres’ Building 5 in Lima. Joining in the celebration were her son and other extended family and local elected leaders. Party goers enjoyed cake and ice cream along with live acoustic guitar music provided by local musician Andy Maher. Laughter and stories filled the air, painting a vivid picture of Bernice's rich life and the bonds she has formed with family and friends over the years.
Bernice, who was born in 1923, lived in Chester until 1940 when she moved to Aston after marrying her high school sweetheart, Edward. Together, they raised three children, two daughters, and a son. Over the years Bernice and Edward's family tree grew many limbs and the Kuhar family now includes 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, weaving a family story of love, support, and cherished traditions. During their youth, Bernice and her husband enjoyed roller skating at Great Leopard in Chester and going to Wildwood with family and friends. After raising their three children, Bernice went to work at the Franklin Mint and later worked at a local doctor's office.
In her free time, Bernice enjoys playing bingo, eating chocolate, telling jokes, and having tea with other residents at Fair Acres. One of Bernice’s favorite hobbies is making miniature prayer pouches, each stitch a testament to her boundless compassion for friends and neighbors at Fair Acres. Rooted in her steadfast Methodist faith, Bernice finds solace and strength, guiding her through each day with unwavering grace and conviction.
Bernice’s mother, who was also a resident at Fair Acres, was herself blessed with longevity and lived until she was 102 years young. Celebrating this milestone with Bernice, her family and friends is more than just a party, it’s a celebration and tribute to a remarkable woman whose life has been characterized by a deep commitment to her family and her faith.
