Scheduled Hours: 8:30-4:30 PM Monday through Friday, 35-hour week. Occasional evening and weekend events.
Summary:
The Victim Advocate serves elderly victims of crime (55+) who live in Delaware County or have been victimized in Delaware County. The Advocate must work effectively as a liaison within the criminal justice and social services systems, identify aging resources for the elderly, and provide strong communication and problem-solving skills. Advocates must maintain confidential, accurate records and data using a system.
Essential Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Victims Manager and the Office Administrator, the Full-Time Victim Advocate will:
Provide civil and criminal victim advocacy and inform elderly victims of crime of their rights
Maintain effective communication with elderly victims of crime
Provide in-person and over the phone resources to victims of crime
Provide direct services to older victims of crime including but not limited to:
Crisis intervention/Safety Planning/ Emergency Financial Assistance
Telephone and in-person individual support
Accompaniment to court, crime-related medical appointments and other agencies
Law Enforcement advocacy/accompaniment
Assistance with filing crime victim compensation claims through an online system
Refer to appropriate services and agencies
Maintain accurate records on victim activities and utilize the ETO Case Management system
Assist in filing for Protection from Abuse (PFA) orders and accompaniment to related court hearings
Participate in community events and presentations to identity victims of crime
Reporting case load updates to the unit manager on a regular basis
Attend agency orientation and trainings including annual training requirements as mandated by funding
Participate in seminars, conferences, and collaborating agency events throughout the year
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or several years’ professional experience and background in one of the following areas: social work, public health, criminal justice, gerontology, counseling, social or behavioral sciences
Experience working with the elderly in social service capacity
Knowledge of the criminal justice system
Proficient computer skills and use of Microsoft Windows Applications including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access
Must be able to work independently and carry a case load
Criminal and Child Abuse Clearances
Valid PA driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle
Residence Requirement: The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees. Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within six months of starting employment.
