Released: August 30, 2021

Delaware County Council joined Health Partners Plans on Aug. 28 in hosting a Back to School event outside of the Delaware County Wellness Center in Yeadon, which will be the site of the future Delaware County Health Department, scheduled to launch in early 2022.

The event was created to give students a jumpstart to a healthy and safe start to the new school year. The event featured vaccines for children ages 12 and up, free haircuts, backpacks, and other supplies—in a fun environment intended to foster enthusiasm and confidence as students begin the new school year.

The event showcased Delaware County Council’s vision for the future Health Department, where all members of the Delaware County community will have access to the resources that will provide them with the opportunity to lead a healthy and productive life.

“This is a wonderful community event and we are grateful to Health Partners Plans for hosting this event,” said Delaware County Council Vice Chair Dr. Monica Taylor. “We are grateful to have strong community partners who share our commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of our community.”

During the event, Health Partners Plans presented a generous $50,000 donation to the County towards the future Health Department. This donation will help the County continue to plan for the future Health Department and work towards creating a healthier and safer community.

“Our contribution will help Delaware County build their Health Department and provide a place where residents can learn more about their health, join wellness programs, and participate in healthy initiatives, like our back to school event,” said Health Partners Plans President and CEO Denise Napier. “We are proud to support Delaware County and their work providing access to vital resources and services central to good health and wellness to members of the community.”

Health Partners Plans contribution to support the launch of the Delaware County Health Department was made to the Delaware County Public Health Fund. Delaware County Council asked that the fund be established at The Foundation for Delaware County in order to encourage philanthropic support from foundations, businesses and generous individuals. To contribute to the fund, please contact Frances Sheehan, President, at fsheehan@delcofoundation.org or 610-744-1011, or visit the foundation on-line at https://delco.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=1828

Once established, the Delaware County Health Department will strive to promote, protect, and assure conditions for optimal health for all residents of Delaware County through leadership, prevention, response, and partnership with the community.
