The Delaware County Office of Sustainability (DCOS) was created in 2021 with a mission of making Delaware County and its operations more sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change. To facilitate this mission, DCOS is charged with examining government operations, engaging with the community, and working with the Sustainability Commission to implement the County’s first Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, "Sustain Delco: A Sustainability Plan for Delaware County."
Delaware County strives to infuse sustainability throughout all operations. To accomplish this goal, six departments, which have missions in close alignment with sustainability, report to the Chief Sustainability Officer. Together with DCOS, Facilities Management, Public Works, Planning, Fleet Management, Parks and Recreation, and the Conservation District, form the Sustainability Functional Group which is working to make Delaware County’s operations more sustainable and resilient.
