Our Virtual Office is open 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and closed holidays. We do not accept walk-ins or appointments for adoption records services because all of our services are done on a virtual basis. If you believe you have a request that cannot be completed via phone, email, fax, or U.S. mail, please contact the office for further assistance.


Adoption Records Services

1. Searching for Adoption Records: To search for an adoption record you must send in a written request by U.S. mail to the Orphans’ Court. The request should contain the following: (1) Name of Adoptee at birth; (2) Year of adoption; (3) Name of Adoptee after adoption; (4) Name of adopting parents; and (5) Contact information to reach you. The letter should be addressed to: Orphans’ Court Division, 201 West Front Street, Media, PA 19063. After receiving court approval, the OC clerk will conduct a search. You will be contacted by letter if a record is/is not found. Requests may take 10-14 days after receipt to complete. If a record is found you will be sent directions for the next step. You will then have the option to file a petition for non-identifying information ($100.00 filing fee) or a petition for identifying information ($200.00 filing fee). Finally, after the petition is approved you will be appointed a case worker within Children and Youth Services department who will contact you with the information.
