Delaware County Community Food Drive Moved to Former Don Guanella School Site in Marple Township
County Food Drive Supporting Families Impacted by Interruption of SNAP Benefits to Take Place Saturday, November 8, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM at 1797 Sproul Road
Delaware County, PA – Delaware County Council and the Department of Human Services are announcing a change in location for the Delaware County Community Food Drive, originally scheduled to be held at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield on Saturday, November 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Due to the Cardinal O’Hara High School football team’s playoff game against Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School, scheduled for Saturday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Cardinal O’Hara High School, the County’s Community Food Drive will be moved just down the street — about a quarter mile away — at the former Don Guanella School in Marple Township, part of the County’s Delco Woods site, located at 1797 Sproul Road, in Springfield.
“The County greatly appreciates Cardinal O’Hara High School’s generosity in offering to host this weekend’s food drive,” said Council Chair Dr. Monica Taylor. “With thousands of fans expected for Saturday’s playoff game, we recognized that relocating the event was the best way to ensure safety, access, and smooth traffic flow for everyone. We’re fortunate to have the former Don Guanella School site — now part of Delaware County’s Delco Woods property — available for community use. It’s an ideal space that allows us to continue this important effort safely and conveniently for all participants.”

Community Response to Food Insecurity
“The uncertainty surrounding federal funding for SNAP has left tens of thousands of our neighbors wondering how they’ll put food on the table next month,” said Council Vice Chair Richard Womack. “No one should be forced to choose between paying their bills and feeding their family because of gridlock in Washington. This drive is about Delco showing up for Delco — we always take care of our own.”
The Delaware County Community Food Drive will help stock pantry shelves ahead of the holidays and strengthen the County’s network of food assistance providers. The event will be held rain or shine and is designed as a drive-up, contactless collection. Volunteers from the Department of Emergency Services’ Citizen Corps will assist with traffic flow and unloading donations directly from vehicles. All collected food will be distributed equally among local food pantries.
Residents seeking more information can visit DelcoPA.Link/Food-Drive or contact Shannon Fitzpatrick Thomas at (484) 486-4895 or ThomasSF@co.delaware.pa.us.
Those unable to attend can still make a difference by donating locally or contributing directly to hunger-relief efforts through ShareFoodProgram.org/Delco.
Come on out this Saturday — bring a bag, bring a friend, and help make sure every Delaware County family has enough food on the table.
Community Resource
In response to the uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits, the County has also launched a new “Community Resources” web page available at DelcoPA.Gov/Community-Resources. The resource page is also accessible from the top of every County web page, and on the "How Do I" menu under "FIND" - 'Community Resources and More' — connecting residents to essential programs and the many organizations that make Delaware County stronger, together.
