Mission and Value Statement
Sheriff Siddiq Kamara is an American law-enforcement leader, military veteran, community advocate, and the newly elected Sheriff of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. A lifelong resident of Delaware County and a first-generation Liberian American, Kamara made history with his 2025 election victory — becoming the youngest sheriff in the United States and the first of Liberian descent to hold the office in the county.
Born to immigrant parents who fled the civil war in Liberia, Kamara was raised in Upper Darby and graduated from Upper Darby High School. From a young age, he developed a deep sense of duty and service, shaped by both family experience and community involvement.
After high school, Kamara enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, where he served honorably for six years and earned recognition for his leadership. During this time he also completed a Bachelor from Immaculata University, blending academic preparation with practical skills in crisis response and public safety.
Kamara’s professional career spans multiple facets of law enforcement:
- He served as a police officer in Yeadon Borough, where he helped establish a community policing unit and worked directly to build trust between residents and police.
- He was selected as a Special Agent with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, where his responsibilities included narcotics enforcement, multi-agency collaboration, and execution of search warrants across the Commonwealth.
- Later, he served on security and executive detail for then-Attorney General and now Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, reflecting trust in his judgment and leadership.
Kamara’s decision to seek the sheriff’s office was deeply personal. In 2021, his 8-year-old cousin, Fanta Bility, was killed when police fired into a crowd at a local event — an incident that galvanized Kamara’s commitment to law enforcement reform and enhanced training. In her memory, he helped lead community efforts and founded the Fanta Bility Foundation, which advocates for police training improvements and community safety initiatives.
As sheriff, Kamara has emphasized professional training, accountability, and community-oriented service. He brings a vision of transforming the sheriff’s office into a more engaged partner with residents and other public safety agencies, focusing not just on traditional duties like courtroom security and civil processes, but on prevention, education, and building community trust.
